As an educator, I aim to demonstrate and inspire learning. As a computer scientist educating young boys and girls in an age where Moore’s Law is a fact of life, I believe it is imperative to focus on the principles of information technology. Hence, since what we teach today could be obsolete tomorrow, students need to be well-versed in the basics and principles of our field. In other words, I aim to educate the next generation of IT enthusiasts to think like computer scientists.
I consider any computer courses as a practical field. Based on my experience and student feedback, I believe that students should have the skills to build and code at least a small-scale software or app in order for them to see the software aspect in its totality. Owning a project like that encourages putting to bear theories for critical thinking and problem-solving. Learning through doing has higher chances of retention.
